Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women worldwide. The most preferred surgical method is mastectomy. Women may experience physiological, psychological and social difficulties after mastectomy. According to the Roy Adaptation Model, one of the models commonly used in nursing care, nurses aim to facilitate the patient's adaptation to the process. In this case report, it was aimed to increase the patient's adaptation to the process by applying nursing care based on the Roy Adaptation Model in the nursing care of a patient who underwent mastectomy after breast cancer diagnosis. The data were collected with a personal information form and a semi-structured interview form based on the Roy Adaptation Model. According to the Roy Adaptation Model, nursing diagnoses have been established in the physiological domain for “distorted body image” and “fatigue,” as well as “insomnia”; in the self-concept domain for “anxiety”; in the role function domain for “experiencing changes in family roles”; and in the mutual relationship domain for “changes in family and friend relationships.”Based on the data obtained, nursing care planned using the Roy Adaptation Model was provided to a 48-year-old patient who had undergone a mastectomy, adopting a holistic approach. The patient reported positive feedback in four adaptive modes. In conclusion, it was determined that the Roy Adaptation Model is appropriate for use in the rehabilitation and nursing care process of a patient who has undergone a mastectomy.
